Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training helps people get better prepared to respond to emergencies in their communities. When disaster strikes CERT trained individuals can provide immediate assistance to their families and neighbors, collect critical information needed by first responders when they arrive as well as safely shepherd spontaneous volunteers. CERT graduates also assist with many non-emergency projects throughout Washington County that help improve safety and disaster preparedness.
CERT is taught by a trained team of first responders and community members who have completed a CERT "train-the-trainer" course approved by FEMA. CERT training includes disaster preparedness, disaster fire suppression, basic disaster medical operations, light search and rescue operations, terrorism awareness and disaster psychology.

READY... SET... GO!
Disaster Preparedness Program - Class Available for YOUR Group!
Citizen Corps of Washington County offers business and community groups a free disaster preparednesseducation program titled, READY...SET...GO!
READY...SET...GO! provides information on how to react to emergencies in our community. Students learn to develop a home and fire evacuation plan, develop a disaster plan, create a three-day disaster kit, where to
get First Aid and CPR training and establish a communication plan with local and remote contacts. The session is a little over one hour in length but is easily modified to meet the needs of your group.
The curriculum was developed by Citizen Corps of Washington County & VOAD chairperson, Debbie Geidel to offer information on how to prevent, prepare and respond to emergencies that occur in our community.
“When a disaster strikes, it will take the cooperative efforts of all the citizens throughout our community,” Geidel said. “Our state, county and cities all have disaster plans, but the general public may not be aware of how these plans will affect their own family, “she said. When we are READY, we know what can happen around us and start to plan. When we are SET, our plans and supplies are in place. When we GO, we can evacuate quickly with our disaster supplies kit, or if needed we can shelter-in-place and survive on our own for up to 72 hours.
