The Volunteer Center of
Washington County has been linking volunteers to community needs since 1983.
The organization began as an idea shared by a group of volunteers. The
group believed that Washington County needed a central place where
volunteers could learn about all the ways their help was needed. This
group of leaders formed the first Board of Directors and founded the
Volunteer Center of Washington County. Their vision gave life to an
idea that over the years has grown and flourished.
We are
governed by a local Board of Directors. A portion of our funding
support has come from the United Way of Washington County, with whom we have
partnered for over 20 years! We are affiliates of both the Points of
Light Foundation and the Wisconsin Association of Volunteer Centers.
Our
Mission:
The Volunteer Center of Washington County connects volunteer services with
nonprofit organizations to improve the quality of life in Washington County.
Our programs:
Volunteer Connection
This program connects
volunteers of all ages with volunteer opportunities given to us by our
member agencies. Right now we have 55 members and over 200 volunteer
opportunities in the registry. Youth, adults, groups and families can
all find wonderful ways to help.
A new component of this program is Citizen Corps of Washington County.
Volunteers can also find many ways of offering help before, during and after an
emergency. Volunteers offer help, skills, time, equipment and storage.
To find out more about Citizen Corps, go to our homepage and read all about
it on the blue side of the website!
Resource Connection
This program links donations and resources of all kinds to our member
agencies. Nonprofit agencies rely on donated goods, equipment and
supplies to do their work on extremely limited budgets. If you have
goods to offer, please call our office. We'll be delighted to get your
donations to places where they can be put to good use!
Our 990:
Every non-profit organization files an annual financial report to the IRS on
a form called a 990. This form presents a summary of the
organization's income and expenses, program information and assets.
990's are available on many Internet websites, like Guidestar and Network
for Good. They are provided to the public so that everyone can access
information about how non-profit organizations are meeting their missions
and providing services to the public in keeping with their purpose.

What is a Volunteer Center?
A Volunteer Center is an
organization dedicated to helping people find opportunities to volunteer in
their community. Volunteer Centers work hand-in-hand with agencies in
the area to find solutions to serious social problems and ultimately help
build a stronger, more caring community. In addition, Volunteer
Centers provide training to other nonprofit organizations to help them fine-tune their volunteer programs to create satisfying volunteer experiences and
increase their ability to impact local needs. There are over 350 Volunteer
Centers in the United States. We have 24 existing centers or centers
in development in Wisconsin!
